African FX rates your app can actually price on
The rates real remittance apps actually quote across NGN, GHS, KES, XOF, ZAR, UGX, EGP and more — benchmarked against an independent mid, so the rate you show can be measured, not guessed. One API call, or one MCP tool.

Provider-level truth, honestly reported
What sets the dataset apart from a global rate feed that happens to list African currencies.
Provider-level truth
Not just interpolated mids. Modan records what named providers actually quote for each corridor — rate, fee, and timestamp — so you see the executable market, spread and all.
An independent mid on every rate
An independent mid-market reference — sourced separately from the providers, refreshed hourly — sits behind every fiat corridor we track, so the rate carries vs_mid_bps and you judge a provider against a neutral number rather than their own. The reference feed does not quote stablecoins, so on USDT and USDC pairs the field is omitted, never estimated.
African depth, every surface
West, East, North and Southern Africa — NGN, GHS, KES, XOF, UGX, RWF, TZS, ZAR, EGP, MAD, DZD, TND — plus USDT and USDC corridors. Multiple providers per pair, with history. The same data powers a keyboard-driven terminal, a JSON API, and an MCP server. One account, every surface.
What teams do with Modan
The same provider-level observations, an independent mid, and history — read three very different ways.
Book and revalue at a rate you can show an auditor
Convert invoices and revalue African-currency balances against an independently sourced, labelled mid instead of a generic feed's stale print. Historical rates are deterministic — the same dated answer every time, with the source disclosed — so month-end close and audit questions resolve to one number.
Answers questions like: What was the USD/NGN reference on 31 July, and where did the executable market sit that day?
Benchmark every quote before you deal
Put an independent mid and the named providers' current rates next to the quote your bank just sent on an NGN, GHS or KES exposure. Historical series show whether today's spread is normal or wide for the corridor, so timing and negotiation run on evidence.
Answers questions like: Is the bank's USD/KES quote inside the market, and what has this corridor's spread done over 30 days?
Price corridors against the whole market
Pull competitors' provider-level rates and the independent mid over the JSON API, position your own pricing against the corridor's best, and alert when you drift. The same data serves an MCP endpoint, so AI agents and pricing jobs consume it natively.
Answers questions like: Where does our GBP/NGN rate rank against every tracked provider right now — and when do we stop being competitive?
Corridor coverage
An institutional terminal, not a comparison site
Dense, dark, keyboard-driven. Sort providers by rate or spread, inspect any quote's history, watch corridors, and monitor feed health — the workflow FX professionals expect.
- Price discovery grid with live spreads in bps
- Corridor coverage heatmap
- Rate & spread alerts
- Feed-health and data-age monitoring
Where the data comes from
Modan tracks the rates named providers actually quote on African corridors. Every observation is range-checked against the rest of the corridor, timestamped and stored append-only — you can always ask "what did the market look like at 10:04 on Tuesday" and get the same answer twice.
Provider quotes, range-checked
Rates from IMTOs, fintechs, banks, central banks and crypto venues covering African corridors, captured per provider per corridor with fees. Each one is checked against the rest of the corridor before it lands, so a broken scrape can't quietly poison a price.
Timestamped, append-only history
Rate history has been recorded since November 2025. Nothing is back-filled or interpolated; every point is an observation.
Honest benchmarking
spread_bps measures distance from the best provider in the corridor and is always present. vs_mid_bps measures distance from an independent mid-market reference we source separately and refresh hourly, and appears only where we hold a reference for that pair — omitted, never estimated, when we don't. Both are labeled, so you always know what you're comparing against.
